Book Review: Personal Development For Smart People
I’ll admit it: I’ve always loved books. From a fairly early age, I was absolutely captivated with the way authors could take you to new and far away places. Of course, back then my reading was more on the lines of Little House on the Prairie, Charlotte’s Web and Nancy Drew but they were just as magical.
So, when I first began my journey of enlightenment, books were obviously the first place I turned. I read Neale Donald Walsch, James Reddingfield, Dr. Wayne Dyer and a whole host of other fabulous authors that literally moved me in a new direction.
And that’s really the thing about books - when they’re good, they can actually alter your perception.
Which brings me to the review at hand: Personal Development for Smart People: The Conscious Pursuit of Personal Growth by Steve Pavlina is perhaps one of the most challenging and enlightening reads I’ve had my hands on in a while.
Steve presents us with seven core principles around which all aspects of life can be measured - truth, love, power, oneness, authority, courage and intelligence. These principles act as a guide, pointing us in the right direction during our never-ending pursuit of awareness and growth.
The result is a brilliant and heart-warming book that gives you a distinct feeling of “connection”, not only with others around you but also with your Source. Split into two parts, Part 1 addresses each principle one by one and shows us how they connect with each other in the complex entity known as the human psyche. In Part 2, Steve gets to the real gist of the book by showing us how to apply these principles to every aspect of our lives.
You want money? Well, then there are some issues you need to address first. Struggle with relationships? Here’s what’s probably causing the problem. For years, we’ve all been striving to see that proverbial “big picture” and while its always seemed to be just out of our reach, we had the clear sense that there was something more - if only we could just get a handle on it.
Steve’s eloquent and intimate writing style puts that big picture front and center and gives us some great guidance as we consider our current path. There’s even a generous list of positive habits that you might want to adopt to make your days more productive, more positive and certainly more rewarding.
I loved this book and am so thrilled to see Steve’s amazing gift for words finally published in book form. For more Steve Pavlina writings, visit his website at StevePavlina.com.
